Welcome back, and I sincerely hope you all had a great summer. I'll try to keep this issue brief, figuring you don't have a lot of time to read newsletter, what with all those great new textbooks you just bought and all.... In any case, get psyched for an incredible year of Leadership, Friendship, and Service as only APO can do it! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Communication, Please Reach Out and Touch Someone... I'd like to have someone from each chapter get in touch with me, either by phone, mail, or e-mail, so that I can establish communication with each chapter again. I know many of you have moved, and I have no idea what your phone numbers are. At the very least, I'd like to get the names and phone numbers of each chapter president, so that I can get the Section as well as National Leadership Directories up to date. Thanks ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Nothing is impossible. Anything can be accomplished with proper preparation and planning. [Ponce de Leon] ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome Back SERVICE AND PICNIC! An Unbeatable Combination.. Every bit as good as chocolate and peanut butter, we're combining a Section Service Project and Section Picnic Details on this whole extravaganza will be sent out in a little while, but for now, mark Saturday, September 11th on your calendar, and plan to show up somewhere in the middle of the section. The project will be in that area, to be arranged by ABXi, at Geneseo, and the picnic will almost certainly be at Letchworth State Park, just like last year. (But by special order, the Section Chair is now exempt from participation in any tug-of-wars... Got it?) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter Officer's Workshop Leadership Development at Its Finest... Since the last item, the picnic and project, cover two of the three principles, that leaves only Leadership, which will hit big-time on: Saturday, September 17th This day-long event, to be held at the University of Rochester, will feature lots of discussions and a few workshops, and is intended for any and all chapter officers. This is a new event for Section 89, and is being shaped almost entirely by input from brothers. The final agenda will not be set until we all get together that morning, so that the workshop will be entirely tailored to your needs and wants. So far, I've lined up a few special guests, who will add both fun and lots of experience to the event. And, all Chapter Advisors are also invited. There will be a few special events planned just for them, and it'll be a great way for both advisors and officers to get to know each other better, and make the advisor-chapter relationship more effective and rewarding for everyone. So, invite and encourage your advisors to attend this first-time event, September 18th. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The entire sum of existence is the magic of being needed by just one person. [Vii Putnam] ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Summer Picnic A Relaxing Day at the Park... The now-annual Section 89 Summer Picnic was held again this year, on July 17th. Attendance was somewhere around 60 brothers, including visitors from Regions I, III, and IV (that's Boston, Maryland, and Illinois for those of you who aren't conversant in Roman numerals...) Anyway, I know I had a great time. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The important thing about your lot in life is whether you use it for building or parking. [anonymous] ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Section Service Projects Serving with the Section... Just a reminder, here's the schedule of Section Service Projects for the year: Sept. 93 ABXi October 93 Chi Phi November 93 Mu Lambda February 94 Gamma March 94 Phi April 94 Epsilon Sigma Remember, get the details of the project to me far in advance (60 days, if possible) so that I can get the information to each and every chapter. And for those of you planning projects, remember these guidelines: o The project needs to be able to handle a flexible number of brothers. There doesn't seem to be any way to predict it, but attendance has ranged from 1 to 30 visiting brothers. o The project should be something that you'd want to travel half-way across the state to do. o The project should be somewhat weather-proof, or at least, have alternate plans in case of bad weather (that's just one more thing in the section I don't think I'll ever be able to control....) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- If you cannot win, make the one ahead of you break the record.
