Oops, wrong life... That's Service Projects, Committee Meetings, AAMDs, Exec Boards, H. Roe Bartles. Yes, in both the academic life and in the APO life, there's a lot going on.... Keep on top of things -- Don't let it be the other way around... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Reminder Time Just In Case You Forgot.... Be sure to register your pledges right away - within 10 days of their ceremony. Remember, you aren't a member of Alpha Phi Omega until you're registered. All chapters should have annual chapter registration materials by now: The Charter Reaffirmation and Chapter Roster, which must be filled out, signed, and mailed in, accompanied by the Annual Active Membership Dues (AAMD) of $8 per brother BEFORE November 15th. Keep your chapter in good standing -- get these in on time... You should also have the Chapter Program Review/ H. Roe Bartle Award forms. Please take a little time and think about these and fill them out. Remember, the idea is not just to get a certificate, but to evaluate your chapter's programs for the past year, and look for places to improve. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Sectional Conference Coming Right Up! Just about two weeks now until the Fall Section 88/89 Conference, to be hosted by Xi Rho chapter at SUNY-Oneonta, November 5-7. Should be a great time. Be sure to look over the information your chapter received, so you'll know about the quilt panels, the food drive, nametags and banners, and all sorts of other details. If you need further information, contact conference chair Michele Nunes at 607-436-5554. Hope to see as many of you as possible there! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- There cannot be a crisis next week. My schedule is already full. [Henry Kissinger] ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanksgiving Section Service Project A Thanksgiving Section Service Project is being planned by Chi Pi chapter at Fredonia for the weekend of November 20th. This will be held at their College Lodge and will include a Thanksgiving Dinner, some service projects, and a party. Look for more info at the upcoming Sectional Conference! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- When the eagles are silent the parrots begin to jabber. [Winston Churchill] ----------------------------------------------------------------------- A F.O.R.K. ? Fraternal Outre Regal Konklave [Dave Bachrach, EG chapter] Epsilon Gamma chapter, at Alfred University, is throwing its first ever Fraternal Outre Regal Konklave (F.O.R.K.) on Saturday, October 30,1993. The morning of, we will be having a village cleanup day here in Alfred. The activities will continue with a delicious buffet meal, beverages, dessert, and dancing. Housing can be provided if advance notice is given. The cost will run about $15/head, which includes the banquet and glassware. Chapters should get invites in the U.S. mail sometime soon, and you can get more information by calling Dave at: 607-587-8216, or by e-mail at BACHRACH@CERAMICS (bitnet). ----------------------------------------------------------------------- If your knees aren't green by the end of the day, then you ought to seriously re-examine your life. [Calvin & Hobbes] ----------------------------------------------------------------------- What's Happening At Sectionals ??? As for the conference itself, as usual, we have a lot of planning for future events to do. We have a few meetings for that purpose: Sectional Advisory Committee (SAC) Meeting There will be a "Sectional Advisory Committee (SAC)" meeting on Saturday morning. If possible, I'd like to have each Section Rep there. It that isn't possible, please make sure that there will be a representative from your chapter there. The topics to be discussed include planning future section events, including service projects, fellowships, and leadership workshops, so be sure to bring your calendar and your ideas. It would be very helpful if you take just a few minutes and ask your chapter for ideas and thoughts about future section events, and bring those ideas and feedback to the SAC meeting. Section Business Meeting We'll have a brief Section Business Meeting. Right now, the only Section Business to be voted on is to allocate reimbursement of funds for the two activities we've had already - the Section Project/Picnic, and the Chapter Officer's Workshop. In addition, we may choose a site and time for several upcoming section events. If there is any other Section Business to be discussed, I need to have word of it in writing (e-mail is OK) by October 25th. At the meetings, we'll also hear about the upcoming Regional Conference in December, and the Spring Sectional Conference at Mu Lambda in April. And, we will have input on when the conference next fall will be held. Before all these meetings, BE SURE TO check into your school calendars for this Spring and next Fall, so we can try to avoid landing events on homecomings, Fall and Spring breaks, etc. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Sect-89L E-mail List for the Section In case you don't know, we have an electronic mailing list just for Section 89, Sect89-L. It works as a real quick, cheap way to communicate with people all over the section at once. If you'd like information about Sect89-L, or would like to subscribe, just send e-mail to me at: bojko@nnf.cornell.edu and I'll fill you in. As a bonus, for those of you reading the hardcopy of this newsletter, I also send out an e-mail version of all newsletters and most announcements to Sect89-L, so if you subscribe, you get to see those before the US Mail arrives as well. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Who's Who ? And Where ? Enclosed with this newsletter is an updated Section 89 Directory. As always, send any updates to me - and remember, if you want to do a mailing to the section, I can provide mailing labels with the addresses already on them. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- to build the trout a crystal stair.
