Your opinions are very important to me, even if you have never participated in a section event. The information I get back will be invaluable in planning our events for next year. Help me direct the efforts of the section in the right direction. Thanks!! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- A Host of Induction Ceremonies Welcome our newest brothers... ------------------------- Alpha Beta Beta chapter, at St Bonaventure University, will hold inductions on Thursday, April 28, at 8:30. The "Section 89 Summer Classic" Picnic will be held on June 25, in Ithaca, NY. Announcements are enclosed with this newsletter, or contact me for a copy of the announcement, including details, map and directions. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Section Meeting With Upcoming Section Events... Here's what happened, if you haven't heard... o I was re-elected as Section Chair. Thank you for those of you who supported me. I look forward to continuing to serve Section 89 and look forward to both you input and your cooperation as we continue to develop our chapters and our fraternity. o The Spring 1995 Section 88/89 Conference will be hosted by Epsilon Gamma chapter at Alfred University, and will be held March 30--April 2, 1995. o Two events for early next year: Mark you calendars now, and look for complete announcements when you return in August. - There will be a reprise of the September Welcome-Back Section Project & Picnic, to be held at Letchworth State Park, right in the middle of the section, on Saturday, September 10th. ABXi will coordinate the service project, and EG will arrange the picnic portion. - And on September 24th, we'll have the next installment of our Section 89 Leadership Conference, perhaps called a C.O.W. (Chapter Officer's Workshop), perhaps named after a different animal entirely, if someone rises to the challenge! This will be hosted by Epsilon Nu chapter at Oswego. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter Info Forms Help Me Find You... Please make sure each chapter returns to me a Chapter Info Form, as handed out at the conference. Otherwise, you might not get invited to the Fall activities, and the National Directory will have old information for your chapter. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Hearts will never be practical until they can be made unbreakable. The Wizard ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CPW's Leadership Development... Over the summer, the Chapter President's Workshop will be offered at a number of dates and locations. This weekend-long leadership development workshop is aimed at all chapter officers. You should try to attend. East-Coast locations include College Park MD, Pittsburgh PA, and Amherst MA. Each chapter has information and sign-up sheets, or contact me if you need more details. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- One has the right to be wrong in a democracy. Claude Pepper ----------------------------------------------------------------------- APO Continued? Join the Staff... Leaving active status but still want to serve the Fraternity? Join a staff. Volunteer help is needed in all areas of APO. Most people start by working locally as Section Staff. Contact your Section Chair, or the National Office [816-373-8667] for more information. In particular, I am looking for new staff here in Section 89, to help with the wide variety of Section Programs we now have, and to visit chapters throughout the section. Get in touch with me if you think you might be interested. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The Section 89 News Challenge Think About It... Send your answer to me in writing, e-mail, US mail, or in person. You could be eligible to win the BIG prizes!!! Come up with a new acronym for our Section Leadership Conferences. They have been called Chapter Officer's Workshops (COWs), but I want to include everybody who is interested, not just officers. Example: Goal Oriented Achievement Training (GOAT) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Answer to previous challenge. Really, I didn't think this one was all that hard. All you needed was a few minutes with your pledge book, heck, even anything on Fraternity letterhead would have given you a real head start. All of the six names listed from our fraternities history usually appear with initials: Donald L. Terwilliger E. Ross Forman George A. Olsen Arthur D. Hatch Lucius E. Young Frank R. Horton And together they spell LEADER! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Life Membership Be In It for Life! If you aren't a life member yet, be sure to signup before you leave school. The rate doubles once you've been away from school for six months, so don't delay. Support your Fraternity, and keep in touch, by becoming a life member! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Gossip needn't be false to be evil---there's a lot of truth that shouldn't be passed around. Frank A. Clark ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Leaving School? Transferring to a new School? Let'em Know... If you are either leaving school, or transferring to another school, make sure you've let the National Office know by filling out the appropriate sheet, which have been sent to each chapter. Those of you moving on will receive a special "token of appreciation" from the National Fraternity, and for those of you transferring, we will be able to find you next Fall. Help out the National Office by filling these out and sending them in. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Upcoming Conferences: 88/89 Sectional Conference: Nov 4-6, St Lawrence, NY 1994 National Convention: Dec 27-30, Dallas, TX 88/89 Sectional Conference: Mar 30-Apr 2, Alfred, NY ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Section 89 News | | | | The Section 89 News is published for Section 89 to provide | | communication from the Section Chair about upcoming events, | | important announcements, and amusement.
