Looks like APO has survived yet another National Convention, and once again, Section 89 Chapters are back in business. Things are looking good all over the section; let's keep up the good work! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Staff Changes We have a few changes in Section Staff to report. Julie Hazeltine, who just joined our staff last Fall, has moved on to Michigan. We wish Julie all the best. Come back and see us soon! It is indeed with bittersweet happiness that I announce that Kristen Whatley will be taking a leave of absence. Kristen has been a loyal Alpha Phi Omegan, a member of our Section Staff for my entire term, faithfully serving the Rochester and Geneseo area chapters, and helping make many of our section events so successful and fun. I'd personally like to thank Kristen, on behalf of the section, for frequently reminding me, in words and by example, that it's better to be cheery when I'd rather be grumpy, and it's better to stay calm and take things in stride, when I'd rather get hyper. Kristen and her husband Joel are embarking on a new endeavor to raise the next generation of Alpha Phi Omega. Best Wishes to Kristen and Joel. It's not all good-byes, however. I'm delighted to welcome to our staff Jennifer "Blondie" Heberle. After stints in Massachusetts and Minnesota, Blondie returns to her old stomping grounds, having settled right in the middle of Section 89, in Canandaigua. We heartily welcome Blondie aboard! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 88/89 Conference March 31-April 2, Alfred NY Any time now, you should be getting the conference packet from Epsilon Gamma chapter, hosts of the Spring 1995 Sections 88/89 Section Conference, to be held March 31-April 2. Well, I've never had a challenge generate so many responses! I suspect that timing was everything, and many of you choose to play word games rather than study for finals. Whatever your motives, what follows are some of the most notable entries. Just to remind you, the Challenge was to come up with the longest or best word made up of the letters in "Alpha Phi Omega", First, from Jim Douglass, new president of Chi Pi chapter, comes this entry which takes the longest word category hands down: HAPLOPIA Next, in the Quantity category, Colin Leonard, EG, clearly had way too much time on his hands, coming up with these categorized entries: For the creative: POEM, for the mystical: MAGI, for the injured: HEAL, for the naughty: HEMP, for those from Long Island: MALL, for the violent: MAIM, and IMPALE, for the religious: PAPAL, and HALO, for the athletic: GOALIE, for the unfortunate: PIMPLE, and LIMP, and for the geologist: MAGMA. And from Kerstin Lesley (Larson) Kenty, E-Funky-E Alum, we get our last notable entry. Kerstin writes: "The best I could personally do was 'PHLEGM' with your section challenge. However, I did manage to create a prase with all of the letters that is at least coherent, if not meaningful: 'MAE, A HIP-HOP GAL.' " Thanks to all who entered, and look below for a new Section 89 Word Challenge. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- To promote cooperation, remember: People tend to resist that which is forced upon them. Just figure out which letter is which, and you should get the whole quote pretty quickly. Once you get going, it's not as hard as it might look.
